CALIPSO, CloudSat, EarthCARE Joint Workshop
The Role of Clouds and Aerosols in Weather and Climate,
18-22 June 2012, Paris, France
Introduction
It is our pleasure to invite you to the joint workshop of the NASA/CSA CloudSat and NASA/CNES CALIPSO and the ESA/JAXA EarthCARE satellite missions.
By the time of the workshop, CloudSat and CALIPSO will have been in orbit for more than six years, and it will be less three and a half years before the launch of EarthCARE. Thanks to CloudSat and CALIPSO data a wide range of climatological issues, such as radiative forcing and feedbacks, cloud and aerosol physics, and hydrological cycle, have advanced greatly. The workshop will review the status of these advances, discuss ongoing and future applications of CloudSat and CALIPSO data, and discuss geophysical data products and calibration-validation plans for the upcoming EarthCARE mission. This joint workshop will also provide a unique opportunity for the science teams to strengthen their cooperation in various areas of research, data retrieval techniques, and validation-verification activities.
